The
Palace of Versailles is a royal château
in Versailles, France. King Louis XIV moved
from the Louvre in Paris to Versailles in 1682
making the country village of Versailles and
the Château de Versailles the seat of
power for france until 1789 when the royal family
was forced to return to Paris. Versailles is
famous not only as a building but as a symbol
of the opulence that absolute monarchy can achieve.
